The father of two who aspired to have five doubts whether he will beget other children, revealing to the court that police who arrested him allegedly ‘tampered with the engine’.

A police officer charged over the brutal murder of one of the country's top psychiatrists, Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, has told the High Court “I fear I may never beget children following a harrowing experience with interrogators.”

Police Constable Collins Bett explained blow by blow how he was arrested from Kisumu, blind folded and taken all the way to Uganda where he joined two other suspects.

"I was arrested from Kisumu blind folded thereafter and taken to Uganda where I was taken to court and convicted and deported," PC Bett stated.

He added that he was coerced to sign a statement nailing his co-accused.

During his arrest, he told Milimani High Court Judge Alexander Muteti: “My Lordship I am a father of two and I do not think whether I will beget other children. I aspired to have five but because of the way I was handled by police who arrested me I may not get other children.”

PC Bett who spoke openly infront TV Camera’s and maindstream media in open court he disclosed, “I was squeezed and pulled. My private parts were mishandled by my fellow police officers.”

Urging the judge to release him bond to seek medication or order that he be treated for assault and internal injuries, PC Bett said, “I have faith in this court and I know I will get justice.”

The police officer who was attached to Thogotto Police Station said he was immensely tortured and compelled to sign a statement implicating fellow police officers alongside Rose Mbithe Mulwa , her two children Chris and Angela (both) lawyers.

He claimed that he was asked at Ruaraka Police Station by an Inspector of Police why he was “pitting the three wakambas (rose mbithe and her two children-Chris and Angela) instead of implicating them.”

He told the judge that the senior police officer confided to him that “even though I am a Kamba, I have no pity for them.”

He said even with all those persuasions, he did not give in.

He denied that he was not arrested from Uganda but in Kisumu then blind folded and escorted to Uganda at a building along Jinja Road.

He said he found Pius Muiru and Daniel Mwangi who has not been charged with murder.

He said another suspect Samuel Karanja whom the judge heard is a relative of a senior director at DCI, was also arrested and the two-are yet to be charged with murder.

He alleged and claimed in court that the lead investigator ASP Clement Mwangi is a relative of Daniel Mwangi who was arrested over the murder of Dr Mutiso.

At the Kilimani police station where they were booked, he alleged that ASP Mwangi clashed with a Mr Miriti asking why he had booked PC Bett at Kilimani instead of Kibra.

He recalled that ASP Mwangi alleged that they will help Daniel Mwangi but will ensure PC Bett is charged and jailed.

However all those allegations were discounted by ASP Mwangi saying none of the suspects was tortured and that they did not file any reports when they were recording statements under inquiry.

He claimed those torture allegations claims are an after-thought.

The DPP urged the court to decline the bail applications

PC Bett is charged alongside PC Elijah Kimoi, Rose Mbithe Mulwa, Chris, Angella and Pius Muiru.

Further hearing will be on October 9, 2026.
