Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki on Thursday reaffirmed his commitment to winning the war against illicit alcohol and drug abuse in the country.
He noted that, the abuse of alcohol and drugs has left many families living in poverty.
The DP said that the society has been crying the impact of abuse of these substances, calling the government to act.
However, he dismissed critics that the government has been unable to control the vice, should be surprised since the war will be won.
“Those waiting for me to fail in the fight against illicit alcohol and drugs that I’m spearheading in government should know that I have never failed in any national duty entrusted to me,” Prof Kindiki said.
Kindiki, who was speaking at Kigio in Gatanga Constituency, Murang’a County said he takes national duty with such a gusto that failure is not an option.
He noted that he will work hard on it as witnessed with what he did to al-Shabaab in Lamu and North Eastern as well as bandits in North Rift when he was the CS for Interior and National Government Coordination.
He spoke after inspecting construction works at Jogoo Kimakia-Kigio-Kirwara road in Gatanga Constituency where he warned contractors who are dragging their feet in national government projects that they will square it with him in his duty of following up on national government projects.
"Contractors should work hard to ensure that the projects they are undertaking are complete in time and that they are doing a quality work. The government has funded them," he said.
Prof Kindiki was on a development tour where he announced the government is constructing roads in the area worth KES 56 billion in Murang’a County,.
He said the state was also constructing 27 markets, nine Affordable Housing projects and Hostels in eight government tertiary institutions in Murang’a county.
He also added that the government was connecting over 13,000 households to electricity in the county, whose occupants have never had electricity.
He was accompanied by among other leaders CS Lands and Urban Development Alice Wahome, as well as MPs Betty Maina (Murang’a Woman Representative), Mary Wamaua (Maragua), Peter Kihungi (Kangema) and Sabina Chege (Nominated) who expressed faith in Kindiki’s leadership in government and his new role of leading the fight against illicit alcohol and drugs.
