Surveyors to mark Mwala School boundaries as land recovery expected to commence on October 8, 2026.

Machakos Lands CECM Nathaniel Nganga has said his department will from next week begin recovering all public land grabbed in Mwala Sub-county, including school land.

Mr Nganga said he had received firm instructions from Governor Wavinya Ndeti to ensure all encroachers on school land move out with immediate effect.

The CECM was speaking at Maaueli in Mwala, where Governor Ndeti had gone to inspect the desilting of Kaaria Earth Dam ahead of the expected El Nino rains.

"No one is allowed to encroach on public land, and because I have been given instructions by our Governor, beginning Monday next week a team of surveyors and physical planners will come here with maps and work with parents and school Boards of Management to ensure school boundaries are clearly demarcated," said Mr Nganga, who was among the Executive Committee Members accompanying the Governor on her development tour of Mwala on Wednesday.

Governor Ndeti said encroachment on public land in Mwala had become rampant, denying public facilities room for expansion and development.

He warned those who had encroached to be aware that the land would be recovered, extending the same warning to those who had encroached on land meant for dams and other public utilities.

During the development tour, the Governor also opened new male and female wards at Mwala Level 4 Hospital and opened the renovated Kyawango Dispensary in Mwala/Makutano Ward.

Governor Ndeti also launched the opening and grading of the Kwa Kavita-Katilini River-Mataka Road, which will improve connectivity, ease movement for residents and motorists, and enhance access to markets, schools, health facilities and other essential services while supporting trade and economic activities in the area.
