Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen has commended the multi angecy security team in the fight against drugs and illicit alcohol in the country.
Speaking during the destruction of methamphetamine worth KES 8.2 billion at Bamburi cement factory incinerator in Mombasa, CS Murkomen said no single security institution can dismantle cross border criminal networks.
Mr Murkomen said the destruction of the drugs is a triumph of the multi angecy security cooperation in the fight against the vice and that the country is not a safe space for the sale of drugs.
"The success is not because one agency did this or that but it is because of team work. We are successful as a country when we work as a team. I'm proud of the security agencies for working as a team," said Mr Murkomen.
The CS further said that they are strengthening the capacity of the National Anti Narcotics Investigations Bureau (NANIB) and that the government is procuring vehicles to strengthen their capacity.
Mr Murkomen further noted that narcotics threats remain huge in the country thus the need to ensure everything is done to stop the vice.
"We will hunt down traffickers, assets acquired through drug trafficking and illicit alcohol will be treated as proceeds of crime,we will take profits from criminals and put them into use to rehabilitate communities, that is the only way to make crime painful,"said Mr Murkomen.
The CS warned any government official colluding with drug traffickers and illicit alcohol dealers that they will be arrested and dismissed from service and that security agencies will continue to intercept vessels, arrest and prosecute those engaged in the vice.
Inspector General of Police (IG) Douglas Kanja said that NANIB has been strengthened to ensure that those who deal in drugs are dealt with in accordance with the law.
Mr Kanja said that the seizure (of drugs) is a testament of what can be achieved when resources are put together and intelligence is shared among security agencies.
Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin said the drugs which have been destroyed are the largest seizure in the history of the country.
"The seizure is not success for law enforcement agencies but for our children and future of our country.Traffickers care about their profits,Kenya is not a market and transit ground for your poison, police will remain alert, arrest you and destroy drugs,"said Mr Amin.
Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Renson Igonga said there is need to disrupt supply chains, destroy criminal networks and look for financiers of the vice and how money moves.
