Most Valuable Player Nicholas Matui inspired General Service Unit (GSU) to the 2026 Mozzart Kenya Cup men's title with a convincing straight-sets victory over Chema VC in the final at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on Sunday night.
Matui spearheaded a dominant GSU performance as the former champions outclassed Chema 25-20, 25-21, 25-19 to reclaim the coveted trophy and cap an impressive campaign in style.
Coached by Gideon Tarus, GSU took control from the outset, using their superior attacking power and defensive discipline to edge the opening set 25-20 in 23 minutes. Chema attempted to respond in the second set, but GSU remained composed in crucial moments, pulling away to win 25-21 after 26 minutes.
With the momentum firmly on their side, GSU completed the sweep in the third set, sealing a 25-19 victory in 30 minutes to conclude the match 3-0 and spark jubilant celebrations.
The final brought the curtain down on an entertaining Mozzart Kenya Cup that showcased the depth of volleyball talent in the country, with Kenya's leading clubs battling for top honours over a thrilling weekend at Kasarani.
GSU's dominance was further reflected in the individual awards after four of their players earned places in the Mozzart Kenya Cup Dream Team.
Brian Melly was named Best Setter, while Joshua Kimaru took the Best Outside award. Hudson Kipchumba bagged the Best Libero accolade, with Matui crowned the tournament's Most Valuable Player following his outstanding performances throughout the competition.
Chema VC also received recognition for their impressive run to the final. Levis Ogutu was voted Best Middle Blocker, while Armstrong Chema earned the Best Opposite award.
Kenya Ports Authority's Enock Mogeni completed the Dream Team after being named Best Server.
The victory crowned GSU as the 2026 Mozzart Kenya Cup men's champions, underlining their status as one of Kenya's volleyball powerhouses after a flawless performance in the championship match.
