Kenya has stepped up preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with the Pamoja Local Organising Committee (LOC) reaffirming its commitment to delivering a world-class tournament as momentum builds toward the historic East African co-hosted championship.
The committee met on Tuesday, July 28, at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, bringing together senior officials from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), the Ministry of Sports and key sports sector agencies to assess progress and fine-tune Kenya's readiness for the continental showpiece.
The high-level meeting was chaired by Pamoja LOC chairman Nicholas Musonye and attended by Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi, who reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring the country meets all hosting requirements.
The stakeholders reviewed ongoing preparations, with discussions centering on strengthening co-ordination among implementing agencies, accelerating infrastructure development and ensuring Kenya is fully prepared to co-host the tournament alongside its East African partners Tanzania and Uganda.
The committee pledged to continue working closely with all stakeholders to showcase Kenya's readiness, deepen regional co-operation and stage a successful tournament that will leave a lasting legacy for sports development.
Members of the LOC Steering Committee also lauded President William Ruto for prioritising the transformation of Kenya's sports infrastructure ahead of AFCON 2027.
They noted that the government's heavy investment in the construction and rehabilitation of stadiums, training facilities and other supporting infrastructure is crucial to meeting international hosting standards set for the tournament.
Beyond hosting Africa's biggest football competition, the committee believe that the projects will create long-term benefits for the country by expanding opportunities for athletes, boosting sports tourism, creating employment and stimulating economic growth.
The committee further observed that the improved facilities will strengthen Kenya's reputation as a destination capable of hosting major international sporting events long after the 2027 finals.
The meeting concluded with the Pamoja LOC reaffirming its resolve to work collaboratively with all relevant agencies to ensure Kenya delivers a successful AFCON that meets the highest international standards and marks a defining chapter for football and sports development in both the country and the wider East African region.
