Tourism Fund joins Mashujaa Day Thematic Week at Eldoret National Polytechnic as Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo-Marakwet prepare to co-host.

As preparations for Mashujaa Day 2026 gather pace, the Tourism Fund has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting, developing and sustaining tourism in Kenya.

The Fund is taking part in the Mashujaa Day Thematic Week celebrations at The Eldoret National Polytechnic, where it is showcasing initiatives and strategic interventions aimed at strengthening the tourism sector, building capacity and supporting the growth of tourism and hospitality.

“We invite stakeholders, industry players, students and members of the public to visit the Tourism Fund exhibition stand to learn more about our mandate, programmes and contribution to the development of Kenya’s tourism sector,” the Fund said in a press release.

The Fund has also urged Kenyans to celebrate the heroes who inspired the country’s independence, democratic ideals and Pan-Africanism. It has asked Kenyans, as well as local and foreign tourists, to keep supporting its work as it builds a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable tourism industry for generations to come.

Mashujaa Day is a public holiday celebrated on October 20 every year. It was previously known as Kenyatta Day.

The 2026 national celebrations will be co-hosted by three counties: Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet. This is the first time a national holiday will be hosted through a multi-county partnership. The main event will be held at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, where President William Ruto will lead the country in marking the day.

Ahead of the celebrations, President Ruto has been on a development tour, launching and inspecting projects in the three host counties as well as in Trans Nzoia and West Pokot.

The 2025 celebrations were hosted by Kitui County at Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui town, under the theme “Transforming Lives through Sustainable Energy Solutions”. This year’s theme is “Security, Sports and the Economy”.

Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo said on Wednesday that the theme highlights the close link between the three sectors.

“Security provides a stable environment for economic activity and sporting excellence, while sports create jobs, nurture talent and stimulate local businesses,” Dr Omollo said.

He added that the three sectors can drive investment, create opportunities for young people and accelerate economic growth, while improving livelihoods across the country.
