Naivas Supermarket has on Tuesday, October 27, partnered with the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) to support Team Kenya ahead of the Dakar Youth Olympic Games.

The partnership reaffirms a shared commitment to nurturing young talent, promoting athlete welfare and investing in the future of Kenyan sports.

It underscores the importance of providing young athletes with the support and opportunities they need to develop their potential, compete on the international stage and inspire the next generation through sporting excellence.

Speaking during the engagement, Naivas Supermarket Chief Commercial Officer, Jorsen Patten, noted that the partnership reflects the retailer’s commitment to supporting initiatives that empower young people and contribute to the development of Kenyan sports.

“At Naivas, we believe that young people are the foundation of our country’s future, and sport provides a powerful platform for building discipline, resilience, teamwork and ambition," said Patten.

He added: "Through this partnership with the National Olympic Committee of Kenya, we are proud to support Team Kenya’s young athletes as they pursue their dreams and prepare to represent our country on the international stage. We hope this collaboration will encourage them to believe in their abilities, remain focused on their goals and inspire other young Kenyans to pursue excellence."

National Olympic Committee of Kenya Second Vice President, Nahashon Randiek, welcomed the partnership, noting that collaborations with the private sector play an important role in strengthening the support available to athletes as they prepare for international competitions.

“We appreciate Naivas Supermarket for coming on board to support Team Kenya’s young athletes as they prepare for the Dakar Youth Olympic Games," said Randiek.

Investing in young athletes, he added, is an investment in the future of Kenyan sport. "Partnerships such as this are essential in helping us nurture emerging talent, strengthen athlete welfare and create an environment in which our young sportsmen and women can compete with confidence and pride. We look forward to working together to ensure that our athletes have the support they need to represent Kenya with distinction,” added Randiek.

The engagement brought together representatives from both organisations, highlighting their shared ambition to create meaningful opportunities for young athletes and strengthen the foundations of Kenya’s sporting future.

Representing Naivas Supermarket were Patten, Head of Commercial Kim Jackson and Head of Marketing Florence Saronge. The NOC-K delegation was led by Randiek and included Women Representative Doreen Okiri and Assistant Secretary General Francis Karugu.

The Dakar Youth Olympic Games team from Kenya was led by team captain David Zera and included fellow athletes Yvonne Sheryl Kaiga, Winfridah Musavi and Calvin Omweri Nyatuka. Their participation highlights the importance of investing in and supporting emerging Kenyan talent as the athletes pursue opportunities to grow, compete and represent the country on the international sporting stage.

Speaking on behalf of the athletes, Zera expressed gratitude to Naivas Supermarket and NOC-K for their support and commitment to the team's ambitions.

“We sincerely thank Naivas Supermarket and the National Olympic Committee of Kenya for believing in us and supporting young Kenyan athletes. This partnership is a great encouragement to us as we work towards our sporting dreams and prepare to represent our country with pride. Knowing that organisations such as Naivas are investing in our future motivates us to remain disciplined, work hard and give our best in everything we do. We are grateful for this support and hope to make Kenya proud by coming home gold medals,” noted Zera.

Through this collaboration, Naivas and NOC-K reaffirm their commitment to empowering young athletes, strengthening support systems and championing initiatives that enable Kenya’s emerging sporting talent to thrive.

As Team Kenya prepares for the Dakar Youth Olympic Games, the partnership sends a strong message of encouragement to the young athletes: their ambitions matter, their potential deserves investment, and their journey towards sporting excellence is a shared national commitment.
