Machakos aspirant for governor seat, Nzioka Waita, has assured residents in the county good governance and improved standard of living if given their mandate.
Speaking on Thursday during a second Mama Mboga Empowerment forum in Mua Ward in Machakos Town Constituency, he said his top priority for the people of Machakos County was is reliable access to water.
“The key priority for our people is reliable access to water. Under my administration, we will make household water connections a priority, expanding and repairing existing water infrastructure and extending water pipelines into more communities so that reliable water reaches more homes,” Waita said.
Mr Waita said the current County government under Wavinya Ndeti “has failed residents in the region on healthcare system and on high unemployment rate among other issues.”
"This is shame after 10 years of devolution, no development progress after the county received billions of shillings. Machakos still isn't working. Water distribution is lacking, healthcare services are also not working, revenue collection is big problem - still not working, urban planning is very poor and majority of people are poor due to bad leadership," he claimed.
He said majority of residents in the county especially young people, feel neglected and left behind after more than 10 years of devolution.
"Despite all the resources we have, we remain poor, troubled and unfulfilled. We all deserve much better than this. Machakos needs a CEO, not a politician," he added.
Among the highlights of his manifesto include coffee, better education standard, provision of water, and promotion of Agriculture for cash crops rather than subsistence and better healthcare system.
Mr Waita, who has marketed himself as a professional in contrast to other candidates for the gubernatorial seat, said his team was the best choice for Machakos County.
"I am not a politician but a professional. We have given politicians opportunity and they have failed us and made us poorer but it is time for us to change," Mr Waita said.
His social media presence reflects that messaging. Under ‘Masaku Bee’, he blends motivational content with calls for women and youth empowerment. One video announcing his bid has garnered lot of views and likes, signaling growing interest among younger voters in Machakos.
Why Machakos 016?
With 2027 still few months out, Waita is an early mover, using digital platforms and community engagements to build name recognition.
His pitch centers on several areas including women and youth empowerment where he is pushing for economic opportunities and leadership pathways. Another focal point is discipline and accountability drawing from Chief of staff and head of the President's Delivery values to demand transparency in county leadership.
He is also emphasising on service delivery, framing his campaign around practical solutions rather than political rhetoric.
The road ahead
Waita's entry adds to what is shaping up to be a competitive race in Machakos. The county has been a Wiper stronghold, but voter appetite for new faces with professional backgrounds has grown in recent cycles.
