UK-based Kenyan tennis star Angella Okutoyi ended a four-tournament wait for a doubles title after teaming up with Emma Kamper from Denmark to win the W35 Verbier tournament in Switzerland on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
Okutoyi and Kamper outclassed Anastasija Cvetkovic from Serbia and Switzerland’s Sarina Schnyder 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 in a one-hour and 21 minutes final played on Okutoyi’s favourite clay surface.
The Kenyan-Danish pair dominated points won on first serve, converting 82 per cent compared to their opponents’ 68 per cent. They won 68 per cent of their service points overall against 60 per cent for Cvetkovic/Schnyder. Okutoyi/Kamper had one ace and five double faults, while their opponents served two aces and committed one double fault.
The victory earned the champions USD1,762, shared equally, and 35 WTA doubles ranking points. The runners-up split USD895 and collected 23 points.
The gold medal underlines Okutoyi’s remarkable consistency in doubles. The 22-year-old has now reached the semi-finals or better in each of her last 12 doubles tournaments, winning nine of them, although Verbier marks only her first title in the last four events.
Okutoyi had previously won doubles at W50 Nottingham, but endured difficult outings at two W35 Aldershot tournaments and W35 Roehampton on hard courts before finding her rhythm on clay in Verbier.
The Verbier tournament was also her first competition outside the UK since moving there in early July to turn full professional after completing a fully sponsored four-year degree at Auburn University in the United States.
While doubles success continues to flourish, Okutoyi is still searching for her first singles title since winning back-to-back W35 Nairobi crowns in January.
