Kenya's Inspector General of Police (IG) and Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are expected to appear in court on Monday over Mathare kidnappings a month ago to explain the whereabouts of the victims.
Douglas Kanja (IG) and Mohamed Amin (DCI) this week sent lawyer Paul Nyamondi to tell the court, the abductees were not in their custody.
This revelation triggered hell as the Milimani Law Courts, turning into a Tower of Babel with parents, relatives of the victims plus activists demanding action against IG and DCI .
Following this the High Court ordered Inspector General of Police (IG) Douglas Kanja and the Director Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin to appear in court in person on July 20,2026 to explain the whereabouts of three persons abducted recently in Mathare- Nairobi.
Meanwhile the IG and DCI disclosed to the court “the three missing persons are not in police custody.”
Immediately after the assertion by the IG and DCI that the missing persons are not in their custody an ugly high noon drama was staged before Justice Muteti by activists of the missing persons.
Serial activist Julius Kamau jumped up from the public gallery where he was sitting shouting “poor Kenyans are being killed and tortured by security agents.”
As he was stripping his shirt, relatives of the missing persons and other activists joined the melee shouting “Kenya has turned into another Haiti.”
They shouted as loud as they could afford with mothers crying demanding production of their sons.
As they shouted, the judge watched them calmly as court orderlies swung into action to evacuate Kamau.
Kamau resisted saying, “I want to die here today. We can’t continue like this.”
Before the activists erupted, lawyer Paul Nyamondi for the IG and DCI had informed the judge that “the three suspects are not in the custody of police.”
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) plus lawyers Ian Mutiso and Abner Mango for the victims urged the judge to order the IG and DCI to attend court in person to explain the whereabouts of the three missing persons arrested and bundled into black Subaru SUVs.
“I urge this court to order IG Douglas Kanja and the director DCI to attend court in person to explain who arrested the three missing persons if not police,” Mr Mutiso told the trial judge.
Mutiso urged the judge to take judicial notice of the return of abductions which are being executed in the most-cruel manner.
LSK and Mango prayed to the court to stamp its authority and hold the IG and DCI responsible for the missing persons.
“The IG and DCI should not be allowed to get away with this matter.Kenyans want to hear from the two where these three innocent Kenyans are,” the LSK lawyer submitted.
The judge ordered the IG and DCI to file evidence explaining the whereabouts of the three missing persons.
The judge also ordered the IG and the director DCI to attend court in person on July 20, 2026.
Meanwhile the judge asked relatives of the missing persons and also the activists to behave in an orderly manner whenever in court since their issues are being handled by the court.
“Now that you have calmed down, I want to assure you that the court will do justice to your cases. The shouting makes it difficult for me to follow the proceedings amidst this drama and shouting games,’’ Justice Muteti told the physically disturbed relatives of the alleged abductees.
Relatives of the three - Oloo, Otieno and Mugo moved to court on Friday, July 10, 2026, seeking orders to compel the IG, DCI, the Officer Commanding Buruburu Police Station, the Attorney General and IG Kanja to produce the suspects in court.
