A judge has discharged the Inspector General (IG) of Police Douglas Kanja and Director DCI Mohammed Amin after attending court over the disappearance of three men in 2025.
Justice Alexander Muteti freed them after he noted “they complied with the court order of last week to explain the whereabouts of the three men.”
Justice Muteti released the two and told them incase they are needed, they will be asked to appear in court again.
"This court notes that you have honoured summons to attend court as directed. You are hereby discharged," Justice Muteti ruled.
Immediately thereafter the judge continued hearing a habeas corpus application over the alleged disappearance of three persons.
The Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin had appeared before Justice Muteti in compliance with court summons to explain the whereabouts of three.
The two senior security officials had appeared in person after the judge declined a request to allow junior police officers stand in for the IG /DCI.
Also lawyer Paul Nyamondi had sought to be allowed to file affidavits explaining the absence of the three.
The case relates to the alleged abduction and disappearance of Macmilan Kiarie, Michael Oloo and Evans Otieno by police officers.
After confirming their attendance, Justice Muteti thanked the Inspector General and the DCI Director for honouring the court summons and excused them from further participation in the proceedings.
The judge directed that they would only be required to return to court if issues arose during the hearing that required their personal responses.
The mother of Evans Otieno, Ms Pamela Aloo told the court she has searched extensively for her son in police stations and mortuaries in vain.
"We have visited Thika Level 5 Hospital and shown 50 unidentified bodies. But he was not among the unidentified bodies," Ms Aloo testified.
She also went to City Mortuary but never found him.
She further told the court that her son has never been arrested and has no criminal case pending before any court.

The father of Macmillan Kiarie, Mr Stephen Mugo, said his son was abducted from Kizito Mwihoko by three men who are believed to be police officers.
Mugo asked the court to order police look for his son.
