KCB Rugby Club were crowned champions of the 2026 Prinsloo Sevens after mauling bitter rivals Kabras Sugar 19-12 in a thrilling final played at the Nakuru Athletics Club on Sunday evening, marking a perfect start to their National Sevens Circuit title defense.
The bankers booked their place in the final after an impressive knockout campaign.
Coach Andrew Amonde's side first whitewashed hosts Nakuru RFC, popularly known as Wanyore, 19-0 in the quarter-finals before overcoming Kenya Harlequin 24-12 in an entertaining semi-final to set up a highly anticipated clash against the sugarmillers from Kakamega County.
Speaking after the victory, KCB Rugby Head Coach Amonde said: “We are happy with the result and the way the boys performed throughout the weekend. Despite the knock, Onyala is okay, which is good news for us. We now shift gears to the Dala Sevens, where we may also give some of the new boys an opportunity to showcase what they can do.”
The win capped a flawless weekend for the Bankers, who remained unbeaten throughout the tournament to lift the first title of the six-leg circuit. In the group stages on Saturday, KCB secured a 29-12 victory over Nondescripts before tightening up defensively to blank NYS Spades 14-0 in their second outing. They finished off the day with an impressive 25-5 win over Catholic Monks.
KCB Sevens captain Elvis Olukusi was named the Player of the Final after an outstanding all-round performance against Kabras, leading from the front as the Bankers claimed their first Prinsloo Sevens title since 2020.
“Winning the first leg of the circuit gives us confidence heading into the rest of the season. Every player stepped up when called upon, and this trophy is a reward for the hard work we have put in during preseason. We appreciate the support from our fans, and now our focus is on maintaining this momentum in Dala,” noted Olukusi.
Attention now shifts to the second leg of the circuit, the Dala Sevens, scheduled for August 1-2, 2026, at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu.
The venue holds special memories for the Bankers, having been the same ground where KCB were crowned National Sevens Circuit champions in last year’s edition.
