Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has condemned attacks on Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in Embu and Wiper Patriotic Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka in Garrisa and called for immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of violence.
Speaking at the Salvation Army Church Kathiini in Kangundo on Sunday, Mwangangi said political violence was painting the country in bad light and called on law enforcement agencies to take action.
"On Saturday we saw violence meted against the Deputy President of Kenya and we also saw violence in Garrisa. Church pray for this country because where there is no peace there can never be development," said DG Mwangangi.
He said it was wrong for political leaders to take advantage of the unemployed youth to cause violence, adding that such leaders should not be elected.
He also asked the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to take action.
"Where is the NCIC? We want to see somebody take responsibility for what happened in Garrisa and what happened in Embu," said Mr Mwangangi.
He also faulted UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar's remarks that even the dead will vote to ensure the party wins in the next presidential election.
Mr Mwangangi said if such remarks had come from a person in the opposition, action would have been taken immediately against the speaker but Mr Omar was allowed to go scot-free.
He cautioned against application of double standards with regards to enforcing the law.
Mr Mwangangi said such remarks pointed to a planned rigging of the election, adding that there would be no need for an election if the government planned to rig it.
"If the dead will vote then what's the need for the elections? That is a very dangerous statement," said Mwangangi.
He said it was the hope and prayer of right thinking Kenyans that the leaders to be elected next year will be leaders who can create unity in the country and not characters who will divide the country.
