Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has called on Kenyans to support Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka, saying he is a forthright leader who will lead Kenyans in harmony, unite the country, and end corruption.
She stated that Mr Musyoka has no scandals after serving in government for a long time and can therefore be trusted to occupy the top seat.
Addressing residents of Mwala Constituency during the inspection of development projects on Wednesday, the governor also rallied the Akamba community to vote for Kalonzo and pleaded with residents not to allow rival politicians to divide them.
"I urge all of you Kenyans to vote for Kalonzo in the 2027 general election. And I can confidently declare that victory for Kalonzo is sure because he is headed for an undisputed victory in the next year's general election," said Ndeti.
The county boss also asked leaders to be mindful of the words they use, as careless statements can incite the public and create unnecessary tension.
"I am calling on the leaders to always embrace dialogue whenever they have issues. They should also desist from uttering words that will lead people to conflicts. Let us not divide Kenyans because of politics, because Kenya belongs to all of us, regardless of our political affiliations," the governor said.
She added that Kenya is bigger than our political differences, and leaders must always put the peace, unity, and well-being of the people first.
"Let us respect the offices we hold and, equally, respect all citizens regardless of their political affiliations. Our leadership should unite, not divide, and our words should promote peace and harmony," she added.
Kalonzo Musyoka's achievements and contributions to the Kenyan political environment are undeniable to those who care to look.
As a seasoned politician, he has held various roles, including Vice President (2008-2013), Minister of Foreign Affairs (multiple terms), Minister of Education, and Minister of Environment and Natural Resources.
Some of his notable achievements include his role in diplomacy and conflict resolution.
Musyoka played a key role in Sudan's peace process and Somalia's stability efforts as Foreign Affairs Minister.
The Sudan peace accord between the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLM/A) was memorably signed at the Garden Hotel in Machakos, giving rise to the Machakos Protocol on July 20, 2002, after 21 years of conflict between the two sides.
Kalonzo Musyoka was a key player in that process.
He is also credited for stabilising Kenya during the 2007/2008 post-election violence when he teamed up with President Mwai Kibaki and was appointed Vice President.
As Vice President, he advocated for peace during the 2008 post-election crisis and contributed to the formation of the Grand Coalition Government.
Figures drawn from before and after his tenure in the Ministry of Education indicate that Musyoka oversaw policies to expand access to primary and secondary schooling as Education Minister.
These are tangible deliverables which affect the entire country and indeed the East African region.
