Three murder suspects will remain remanded at Machakos GK Prison after the Machakos High Court denied them bail on Friday.
Christopher Mwenda Robert, Francis Mutinda Kimeu, and Dominic Muinde Paul are accused in the murder of three young men namely late Kennedy Mutiso(29), late Stanley Muthungu(22) and Charles Mutiso (25) on the night of May 31, 2026, in Machakos by being falsely accused of carjacking.
The three men who were beaten and lynched were walking home after watching the UEFA Champions League final when one of them was accidentally struck by a Probox vehicle, leading to a confrontation over the accident.
The court heard that the vehicle's driver, Christopher Mwenda Robert, raised a false carjacking alarm drawing crowd of boda boda riders and locals who brutally attacked, doused the victims in petrol and set them a blaze.
Bail was denied due to the extreme violence of the heinous crime.
The prosecution claimed that the first accused killed the victims by cutting them multiple times with a panga, pouring petrol on them, and setting them on fire.
Additionally, the first accused called over other people—including the second and third accused—which implies there were further witnesses to the incident.
Furthermore, the court was told that witnesses who are from the same community could be intimidated or coerced into silence.
The case was heard before High Court Judge Lady Justice Josephine Mong'are. The three suspects were denied cash bail and will remain in custody while awaiting trial.
The next hearing is scheduled for December 15 and December 16, 2026.
