Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has stressed the importance of reviving the agricultural sector of the county in her government’s effort to diversify the economy aiming at boosting food security, job creation and rural development in the region.
Governor Ndeti said the her aim was improving farming saying this will create both direct and indirect employment opportunities for youths and residents of the county, while also increasing internally generated revenue through agribusiness activities and allied services.
Speaking on Wednesday during a development tour at Kwa Katiwa Earth Dam in Kithongoni Sub-Location, Kangundo Sub-county, she observed that agriculture is an integral part of the county’s plan for sustainable economic growth and development.
"My government is transforming lives by creating new economic opportunities for local residents. Today, we stocked the dam with additional fish fingerlings to enhance fish production, strengthen aquaculture, and create more sustainable sources of food and income for the local community," the county boss added.
The governor said she will continue to support the farming activities already being practiced by residents in growing and selling crops such as tomatoes, sukuma wiki, spinach, bananas, sugarcane, and sweet potatoes, among others.
"As your governor, I will continue to support farmers by providing them with seeds, seedlings, and planting vines. This is not just an investment in a water resource, but the perfect foundation for my realisation of Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni in Machakos," she added.
