Matungulu Member of Parliament Stephen Mule has launched the Constituency Strategic Plan 2026-2036, pledging to prioritise education and calling on the National Government to fully fund constituency development priorities.
Speaking during the launch at Sengani Senior School on Tuesday, MP Mule said long-term planning is the foundation of national growth.
"There’s no nation which will grow without a plan for the future education of the young generation," Mr Mule said.
Under the new 10-year plan, the MP said the constituency will embark on purchasing land and building 24 day secondary schools across Matungulu.
Mule credited the previous 2015-2025 strategic plan for Matungulu’s current lead in education infrastructure.
"As we speak, we have more day secondary schools than any other Sub-county in Machakos. That is because we had a vision and executed our strategic plan 2015-2025," he said.
He noted that Matungulu was better prepared for the Competency-Based Education (CBE) transition.
"When CBE was introduced, my colleagues in Parliament were struggling with building classes. Here in Matungulu we had no crisis because I made sure for every one or two primary schools, we had a day secondary school," Mule added.
According to the MP, the results are showing.
"In 2025 alone, we took 630 students heading to universities from our day secondary schools. So we are serious on what we are doing," he said.
Mule announced that a three-floor laboratory block will be constructed at Matungulu Girls Senior School at a cost of KES 20 million from the NG-CDF.
He further unveiled an ambitious goal to transform Matungulu Girls into a Centre of Excellence, requiring KES 8.7 billion to be raised over the next five years through government funding and donor support.
"Each constituency must evaluate what they need and let it be funded by the National government because the money is available but often misappropriated," Mule said.
In total, the MP said the constituency will need KES 6.8 billion in the next 10 years to fully address gaps in the education sector.
The launch was attended by school heads, parents, and local leaders who lauded the plan as a roadmap for transforming education in Matungulu.
