The daughter of a 2027 presidential hopeful arrested on July 31, 2026, over the cruel murder of a well-known mental health physician Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso five days ago, will know her fate on Tuesday (August 4, 2026).
While Angella Mulwa, a lawyer, was detained at a Machakos Police Station, her mother Rose Mbithe and brother Chris Mulwa, also a lawyer, were detained for 21 days at Kilimani and Kileleshwa Police Stations respectively.
Also presented at the Mavoko Law Courts alongside Angella was Nelson Masiga Makaralu.
Angella was arrested on Friday last week after representing her mother in the case where the family of three are sought for the murder of Dr Mutiso.
Mbithe and Mulwa were detained on orders of magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo, who said they were going to interfere with investigations and witnesses if released at this stage.
Mr Onsarigo said the husband of the deceased, Prof David Musyimi Ndetei, who is devastatingly affected by the killing of his wife by allegedly, his divorced and estranged wife (Mbithe), is yet to record a statement.
He directed the mother and son be detained in police custody for 21 days.
Ms Angella and Makaralu, both key suspects in the murder of the founder of African Institute of Mental and Brain Health (AFRIMEB) are being investigated for the murder and theft of title documents of the KES 1.5 billion 20 acre-parcel of land in Mlolongo, Athi River, Machakos County.
At the Milimani Law Courts, Rose Mbithe Mulwa and her son Chris Mulwa were detained for 21 days to assist police in unearthing the mysterious murder of Dr Mutiso.
The arraignment of Angella and Makaralu brings to four those arrested over the murder of Dr Mutiso which has shaken the public.
Crime detectives from the Athi River DCI Office are investigating the alleged land fraud.
Police told the court that high end vehicles were recovered from an upmarket Nairobi suburb.
The duo, the court heard, are being investigated as well for theft of high-end vehicles, a KDU 799Y (a Range Rover), KBT 935T (a Toyota Prado), KAK 225K (Toyota Pick-up) and KAN 506B (Toyota Corolla).
Two of the stolen vehicles were owned by AFRIMEB of Dr Mutiso while the other two were allegedly stolen from Prof David Ndetei.
Besides the fuel guzzlers, the court heard the two suspects are also being probed for illegal invasion into the private property of the deceased.
The magistrate heard that the property in dispute had a long running High Court case where Rose Mbithe Mulwa (the divorced wife of Prof David Ndetei) had sued the deceased.
“The families of the complainants have suffered irreparable loss involving unlawful eviction, demolition of their matrimonial properties all valued over KES 1.5 billion,” Sergent Gilbert Okello told the court on Monday (August 3).
Sgt Okello is probing forgery of the High Court order which paved way for the invasion and eviction of Dr Mutiso from her property at Mlolongo.
Sgt Okello said police are forensically studying CCTV videos recovered from the scene of shooting to establish the occupants of KDU 799Y to unmask the true killers.
The court also heard the KDU 799Y is the vehicle that blocked Dr Mutiso’s vehicle, a Uber KDJ 609D she had boarded enroute to her workplace.
Sgt Okello said Ms Angella and Makaralu are being investigated for the offences of murder, forgery and property.
“They are likely to be culpable for other offences related to the property in contention and the murder charge,” submitted the prosecuting counsel.
However a defence lawyer Cliff Ombeta urged the court to free the suspects on bond claiming they are not a flight risk.
“Ms Angella Mulwa is an advocate of this court of 26 years standing and knows very well the requirements of bond terms. She has promised to cooperate with investigators,” Mr Ombeta told the court.
But the prosecution said the arrest of Angella and Makaralu was a result of crucial leads by the investigators.
Pending determination of the 21 days detention plea, the two, Angella and Makaralu, will remain in custody until August 4, 2026, when further directions will be given.
