A man has been charged with murdering a Technical University of Kenya (TUK) Lecturer Edgar Mokua.
Richard Gikuhe Mbugua was arraigned before Milimani High Court Judge Margaret Muigai.
He denied having brutally murdered the University lecturer jointly with others not before the court.
Mbugua’s lawyers Stanley Kinyanjui, Martina Swiga and Danstan Omari applied for his release on bond saying he is not a flight risk.
The application for his release on bond has been vehemently opposed by the prosecution saying the accused is a flight risk arguing that it took police several weeks to apprehend him.
Besides an affidavit sworn by the investigating officers, Justice Muigai also called for a pre-bail report.
The judge directed the probation office to interview the family of the accused person and the victims’ family before a decision can be arrived at whether to free him on bond or not.
The judge heard among those who have recorded statements include the wife of the deceased Ms Anne Kilimatinde, a World Food Programme (WFP) employee, based in Kampala, Uganda.
Ms Kalimatinde explained to the homicide officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) how she frantically looked for her husband in vain from the night of July 6, 2026.
According to court filings, Mokua was last seen on July 6, 2026, when he left his residence at Princes Park, Lavington, Nairobi County at around 4:20pm and never returned.
Police state after unsuccessful efforts to trace him, the deceased's family filed a report of a missing person at Muthangari Police Station.
Efforts by police to trace him bore fruits on July 11, 2026, when Mokua's body was found lying at the City Mortuary, where it had been taken by officers from Kiamumbi Police Station on July 7, 2026.
It was recovered along Kamiti Road near Woodcreek Academy.
Interim investigations have since established that on the night he allegedly disappeared, the deceased spent several hours at Kettle Club in Lavington before proceeding to Ibiza Club within Lavington Mall around 11pm in the company of two men and a woman.
According to a CCTV footage recovered by crime busters at the club, the deceased allegedly struck a conversation with a woman who was allegedly sitting alone at the counter.
Around 3:30am , DCI detectives stated his companions left, leaving him behind.
Moments later, he joined the lone woman at the counter.
A CCTV footage captures the pair leaving the club together at 4:41am with Mokua carrying two tumblers.
Outside the club, the DCI detectives state the pair boarded a vehicle.
Investigators have also established that the same vehicle was used to dump Mokua's body along Kamiti Road before speeding away from the scene.
Police have stated they are deep into the investigations with a view to establishing what transpired.
A toxicological analysis is being conducted at the government laboratories with a view of establishing whether Mokua may have been drugged before his death.
The accused has been remanded in prison custody to await the pre-bail report.
The judge heard from the prosecution that homicide detectives are hotly pursuing leads to identify and apprehend other suspects who are still at large but police state they are closing in on them.
