The ex-wife of reknowned top psychiatrist Prof David Musyimi Ndetei, Ms Rose Mbithe Mulwa, has finally broken her silence on the cold-blooded murder of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso on July 29, 2026, claiming she was not involved at all.
In her startling revelation before Milimani Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo, she alleged that she was the one who paid for the education of Prof Ndetei when he was a 2nd year medical university student upto to PhD level.
She also alleged the deceased (Dr Mutiso) was a cleaner in their office and that it "is Prof Ndetei who educated her up to PhD level".
In addition, she claimed they parted ways with Prof Ndetei 30 years ago and that she singularly educated their four children where the three are lawyers and one is an IT expert.
During the court proceeding on Tuesday, her son Chris also joined his mother's testimony, claiming they are being framed so that their KES 1.5 billion estate can be plundered.
Mulwa claimed before Onsarigo that she cannot access her accounts to withdraw money to pay for medical expenses and run her day-to-day life.
She also alleged that money had been 'poured' to have them maliciously prosecuted for the murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso, who was shot and killed in Upper Hill, Nairobi, last month.
However, she did not share proof of this.
She also made unsubstantiated claims that the DCI and DPP have been compromised.
"I did not kill Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso. I am a victim of circumstances. I have not killed anybody and I have done nothing,” stated she.
She added, ”It is me who educated my former husband, Prof David Ndetei, up to PhD level. He is now on a wheelchair and facing serious health challenges," Mulwa said in court.
She further claimed she single handedly educated her four children-three advocates and one IT expert as they had “parted with Prof Ndetei for 30 years.”
She also claimed that she was advised by a former Director of Criminal Investigation-Noah arap Too to quit the marriage as “she would be killed.”
The ex-wife of Prof Ndetei also disclosed that her former husband had been denied a pistol by the relevant authorities.
She also disclosed, “Dr Mutiso was our cleaner, she was educated by Prof Ndetei upto to PhD level,” Ms Mulwa stated as she spilled the beans that huge sums of money has been paid to police by financiers to ensure they remain behind bars.
She further made some unsubstantiated claims that already a certain lawyer has pronounced self the administrator of the KES 1.5 billion estate, promising to profit police and the prosecution with chunks of the land.
Her son Chris alleged that he was threatened by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers to record a statement, or else they would seek orders to have him detained for 60 days. He claimed that he chose to keep quiet.
He claimed the state has been weaponized to maliciously prosecute them. He alleged all his identification documents including his National ID, LSK ID, Medical card and all other documents he could use to identify self have been taken away.
"I am an advocate of this court and I am entitled to express myself," he told the court.
Chris alleged that he requires an MRI and cannot access funds due to his incarceration.
Damning claims
Defence lawyers Danstan Omari and Katunga Mbuvi had asked the magistrate to allow mother and son to explain some of the issues they had raised.
It was then that they made the damning claims against the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and DCI.
However, prosecuting counsel Jalson Makori opposed the suspects making such purported defamatory allegations against the police and the DPP.
He told the court that if the suspects had issues, they should raise them at the proper forum — the High Court. He then asked that the miscellaneous file be closed.
“Let Ms Mulwa reserve whatever she has to say until she is at the proper forum at the High Court. Chris chose to keep quiet and he should not be heard to make allegations against the police.”
Mr Omari and Mr Katunga asked the court to be patient and let the suspects state their position as they have not been allowed to access their funds and other essentials.
In a brief ruling, Onsarigo closed the file and ordered that Rose and Chris be presented before Justice Kanyi Kimondo for plea-taking.
Makori had earlier told the court that a charge had already been registered before the High Court. where, Rose and her two children, Chris and Angella, have been charged with murdering Dr Mutiso.
Rose told the court that she divorced Prof Ndetei 30 years ago and had amassed a lot of wealth in their years of marriage. She also stated that she harbours political interests in the country's presidency.
She also informed the court that she single-handedly educated her four children — three lawyers and an IT expert.
Meanwhile, the High Court has ordered Ms Mulwa, her two children Chris Mulwa and Angella Mulwa (both advocates) be detained at the Kileleshwa Police Station for two days until August 27, 2026, when further directions will be given.
Ms Mulwa and Chris were re-united with Angella, who had been out on a cash bail of KES 1 million granted by a Mavoko Law Courts.
On Thursday, the three may be called upon to plead to the charge if they shall have been examined by a psychiatrist to determine whether they are mentally fit to stand trial for the murder of Dr Mutiso.
Mr Makori informed the court the three have not been examined by a psychiatrist and “two days may not be enough as the process requires time.”
Mr Makori urged the three be detained upto Thursday then produced in court for further directions.
A deputy registrar criminal division Ms A N Sisenda before whom the three appeared, directed they be detained until August 27, 2026, when they will appear before Justice Kanyi Kimondo.
All the three, mother and children were re-united after being separated for 21 days.
Ms Mulwa had been remanded at Kileleshwa, Chris at Kilimani and Angella at Mavoko Police stations respectively.
Angella who had been detained for 14 days alongside one Nelson Masiga Makaralu had been released on a cash bail of KES 1 million by a Mavoko Magistrate Ms Lilian Kwamboka freed the duo on a cash bail as they were being investigated over forgery of title, malicious damage to property and theft of motor vehicle.
Upon her release, Angella was re-arrested on August 19, 2026, then presented before Magistrate Joan Mati. Police sought to detain her for 14 days to investigate her for murder.
Angella opposed the 14 days detention, claiming her matter had been determined by a Mavoko court and that she could be presented before a court of concurrent jurisdiction. She added the same issues had been canvassed and determined and that police could not revisit the same.
Mr Makori opposed saying what was before Ms Mati was a totally different matter as the Mavoko one touched on forgery, theft of motor vehicle and malicious damage to property.
In her ruling, Ms Mati said, “ There is in the circumstances, insufficient material to warrant bifurcation of the issues raised in the present application from those considered at Mavoko miscellaneous criminal case application no E494 of 2026."
The magistrate dismissed the objection raised by Angella to deny the police an opportunity to prosecute its application to detain her for 14 days.
Immediately after the dismissal, Mr Makori presented the murder charge documents and she was whisked away by DCI officers to record a statement.
Angella was the first to be presented to the High Court, then her mother and brother thereafter.
After Ms Sisenda ordered the three be remanded at Kileleshwa, they were escorted out of court by DCI officers.
Besides the mother and her two children, police are also holding, Police PC Kimoi of Karinde Police Post which falls under Kikuyu Police Station, Daniel Mwangi Njoroge and Kevin Ngugi Kinuthia.
Njoroge is said to have been driving the Prado that blocked Dr Mutiso before Kinuthia driving a boda boda dropped Kimoi who shot the medic at close range.
Detectives are widening the manhunt for two police officers wanted over the last month's killing of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, with investigators enlisting Interpol to help trace the fugitives believed to be hiding in Uganda.
At the same time, fresh court filings reveal that the murder had been planned months earlier, with a KES 300,000 down payment allegedly made to the suspected killers on April 24 for the alleged murder to be carried out.
Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang and Police Constable Bett Kiplangat Collins remain at large as detectives pursue the alleged chain linking suspected financiers, police officers, gunman, driver and motorcycle rider.
Dr Mutiso, a prominent neuroscientist and former Director of Research and Administration at the Africa Institute of Mental and Brain Health (AFRIMEB), was shot dead on July 29, 2026, in Nairobi's Upper Hill area while travelling in an Uber.
